The BT-338 GPS is constructed around the SiRFstar III GPS chipset. This is the latest and most sensitive of the GPS chipsets designed specifically for pulling in the weakest signals to provide the most accurate position with the available data. As a result this is one of the fastest starting and most accurate GPS receivers available. Updates are available every 1 second, and are accurate down to 5 metres. This is one of the first of the new generation GPS chipsets that has an all-in View high performance multifunctional 20 channels. The output protocol is version 2.2 supporting the latest commands such as GGA, GLL, VTG, RMC, GSA, GSV supporting most GPS or mapping software that use NMEA.

All the GPS needs is a clear view of the sky to be able to calculate your position and altitude accurately to within a few feet. With older systems getting a position in cities and woodland was difficult. With the latest single satellite positioning it provides more position fixes in the narrow city streets or dense foliage environment.
